Making up one half of the Boston rap duo alongside partner in crime
Esoteric, 7L is not only nice behind the production boards, but can
also hold his own behind the tables, as proved on “Can I Live?” Not
exactly a scratchfest, but none the less, a tape which delivers the
goods. Hosted by Queensbridge’s veteran thug Tragedy Khadafi, this
is definitely no run-of-the-mill hip hop mixtape as aside from
featuring a multitude of today’s finest 12″ bangers you get some
nice freestlyes courtesy of assorted rhyme pro’s like Afu Ra,
Akrobatic, Virtuoso, newcomer Reks and a venomous verse from
Esoteric who’s accompanied by an incredible beat which samples an
obscure track from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Also
included is an exclusive tape rip by The Sound Providers which is
extremely nice indeed and won’t be found anywhere else. Other
highlights on the tape are provided by Tragedy who get’s his baby
son to shout stuff like “255 forever” down the phone and also calls
7L “The Iatollah of this mixtape shit” which made me chuckle. If you
like a tape with a mixture of deft, thick, lumbering beats and
basslines that knock-you-upside-the-head – look no further.
