The Immortalz are the guys who’re always giving jip to Connor Macleod in Highlander. It’s also a new handle for Kromestar’s smoked-out instrumental hip hop projekt, heralded here with debut beat-tape ‘The Arrival’. Like a red-eyed south London cuz to Spaceghostpurrp, Kuedo or Parallel Thought, they deploy dusted late ’90s breakbeats, boot-quaking bass and a whole VHS/DVD collections-worth of movie samples over fourteen tracks obviously built with hazy, lowlit bedrooms and hotboxed rides in mind. We’d daresay it’s also got contributions from some of the cats who’ve recently appeared on Om Unit’s Cosmic Bridge label – Jay 5ive, Dark Tantrums – but it’s also kept purposefully shady; minimal info exists online and we should stress that we’re just guessing in the wind. Dope sounds, though. A roadwise UK alternative to the current US sound.
