New York DJ Max Tannone has just crawled out of the lab to present hip hop fans with another remix album that pays homage to a favorite hometown hero, Ghostface Killah, and a collection of obscure African funk, high-life, and psychedelic rock jams.

Unlike a lot of other mashup/remix attempts, Ghostfunk is crisp, unblemished, and invigorating. Max is one of the few producers that has given a vivid new personality to a legend’s catalog without compromising the integrity of the original records. Some singles, like “Three Bricks” from Fishscale (Three Lords), are revived by Tannone’s fresh new foundation and puts the initial production to shame.
